9 Hour Beginner Package Explained
Lesson 1 (3 Hours): Basics of Kite Control
This is the basics of kite control and handling. You will be flying one of the latest Cabrinha kites and you will go through the equipment terminology and setup, the wind effects and wind-window theory. You will learn how to fly your kite, hooked into the harness using the power of the kite in a safe environment, how to use your safety system, launch and land, and fly the kite with the de-power loop.
Lesson 2 (3 Hours): Water Control & Body Drag
The next step brings you into the water. You will learn how to get power from the kite, change direction with your kite in the water, how to re-launch a crashed kite from the water, and how to self-rescue. You will also learn some additional and essential body drag techniques such as upwind body dragging (you will need this skill to retrieve the board after a crash).
Lesson 3 (3 Hours): Board Control & Waterstart
We set you up on a board and teach you the water start theory: board and body positioning while piloting the kite, diving the kite to enable standing up on the board, and controlling the speed and the direction. This final level covers the remaining topics to make you a totally independent kiteboarder. You will know how to choose a spot, rig your gear, stay safe, and you should be able to ride back and forth from the beach.
Most kids need about 3-4 days to finish a standard 9 hours of lessons. But don’t worry if they take a little longer or pick it up faster, every child learns at their own pace. The steps we go through in each lesson give a general idea of the process and how much time each part takes. Some kids may need more time on certain skills, while others might breeze through them. The key is making sure they feel comfortable and confident as they go!
Good to Know Before You Book
- All of our lessons come fully equipped with everything you need: kite, board, harness, and all the essential safety gear. If you’ve got your own gear, awesome! You’ll score a 20% discount when you bring it along.
- No need to stress about choosing a package upfront. We like to keep things simple: pay at the end of your lessons, so you only pay for the hours you use.
- Thinking of group lessons to save some cash? While they can be a good deal, they’re usually less efficient for learning. And just a heads-up: we only offer group lessons for people who come together with their own friends or family. We don’t mix and match groups of strangers.
- Need a little extra help after your lessons? You can hire a personal assistant for $15 USD/hour. We recommend sticking with assistants from schools since they’re vetted for quality and offer transparent pricing.
